Just to kick things off, you are on tour with Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees right now. What has that been like? It's been amazing. Having groups like Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees, who haven't been together in 10 years, is exciting and fresh. Playing for different fan bases and bringing people together keeps it exciting.  We've been back together now for five years, so it’s not a reunion any more.  We love to perform and we're having a blast doing it. 
I know that you've spoken with Hear the World in the past and since you've last spoken with us, you've had another baby, a little girl.  Your son Rhys is the one that has hearing loss. Does he wear a hearing aid or does he have a cochlear implant?He wears hearing aids.  I think you could argue that he is a candidate for cochlear implants, on paper.  But we decided to go with hearing aids and we've been fortunate to have some great people helping us.  We've had an amazing audio verbal therapist that we really trust and he goes to every week.  He's talking like any three and a half year old kid.  His older brother and his younger sister are very precocious; they were born that way, very talkative at a young age.  I think he's benefited from that. 
Can you tell us a little bit more about his speech development?  I know three and a half is a pretty crucial time for that.If your goal is for him to be speaking like kids his age, I think he's in the upper percentile of performance for severe hearing loss. I think he has a gift for wanting to learn. Some people were just born not wanting to repeat words, but he really makes the effort and enjoys repeating. He loves to learn and he doesn't have an attachment to failure. Our therapist that we work with does tests periodically and he is performing at a four year old level.
You mentioned your speech therapist and it sounds like you really like her.  Can you tell me a little bit about your experience with her?She is very direct but a great advocate for the child. When you're trying to figure out what's best for your kid, it’s easy to feel intimidated. It’s easy to just listen to doctors but they have an opinion about certain things. Being able to take the time and figure everything out on your own is what's important.  Certainly our therapist has a point of view and opinion but she works with tons of kids that have cochlear implants and some that have hearing aids.  So it’s not that she's pushing one way or the other, but it's based on what she's hearing and the child’s needs. 
Talking a little bit about music.  Obviously that's a huge part of your life and I'm just wondering if your son is into music?  Does he have any music that he really enjoys and listens to?He does. My other kids like to sing and dance and he likes to sing and dance, but he can sit at the piano and just play and really enjoy it.  He hits the keys to make his own music. 
I know you're familiar with Hear the World.  Are there any other groups out there that you go to for support or research or just groups that maybe your son belongs to?We did early on here.  In those first two weeks, we spoke with a family, who had a five year old, they didn't know until she was six months old that she was profoundly deaf.  She got the cochlear implants and they love them. That was the first ray of hope for us. We learned that if you do want your child to be able to hear, that there are lots of different ways for that to happen. 
Do you have any advice for parents out there that have a child with hearing loss?There are a lot of families that have children with hearing loss and thanks to the Internet, there is access to lots of information.  Just hearing different opinions and knowing that there's hope and support in the community is huge. 
As parents, we don't want to change our kid. We love our kids and believe that they were born the way they were because it was meant to be. It is important to have patience and ironically, you've got to listen.  You have to listen to everything.  You have to be able to listen to what you agree with and what you don't agree with and then you have to listen to your child and try to make the decision that's best for them. It's not easy and it’s tough to talk about because I had the resources, living in the city and having the ability to get in front of the right people. I know that not every family has that and that might influence their decision. 
But the reality is, it doesn't matter what your child is hearing necessarily.  It's just that you're there for them and you love them and have as much patience with the situation as possible.  Sometimes it feels like you have to make a decision right away and maybe waiting a little bit longer for more information might help you.  You might not change your mind, but at least you know in the long run that you spent a little bit more extra time making the decision.

PEOPLE: Gather Around the ‘Blue Bloods’ Family Dinner Table

Food brings everyone together—and that’s certainly true for the cast of CBS’s Blue Bloods. Each week on the popular police drama, the Reagan family—led by Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes—gather around a large dining table to discuss the issues playing out in the episode …. and eat. A lot. (But we’ll get to that later.)
Watch one episode and it’s clear: the Sunday supper is the heart of each show. “They’re the most fun to film because everyone is telling stories, laughing, sharing their points-of-view,” says Selleck. “It’s like a real family.”
The new season premieres on Friday, but here’s an early taste of things you may not know about the Blue Bloods supper scenes:
1. The cast really likes being at the table together.Selleck: “You can work on an ensemble series and you may not see a fellow cast mate for a month. But here, once a show, we get to have a family dinner, which we all look forward to. We all like each other and have become close, so it’s like catching up. Sometimes we get talking so much that it gets in the way of the work.”
Sami Gayle: “Before we sat down at the table today, Tom gave me his list of 10 movies that every actor should watch. He really wants to educate me about the great films of all time, which is amazing. Will [Estes] asked me for the list too, and we’re both going to watch them all.”
2. It takes a full day to film one scene.Selleck: “It’s nice to spend time with the entire cast once an episode, but filming an eating scene is miserable. Well, the eating part is. You have to eat the same foods over and over again to get all the shots. We’ll probably spend eight hours shooting this scene.”
Wahlberg: “The first dinner scene we shot for the new season was really tough because I got off a plane from tour [with New Kids on the Block] and came straight to set. And that scene took over five hours. Between every camera take, I took a nap on the couch. They would literally wake me up a second before the camera started rolling and I would run and take a seat at the table. I was just delirious. I don’t know how I remembered one line.”
3. The food is real—and fake.Jim Lillis (prop master): “We give them real food on camera, but we try to keep it mildly seasoned because they have to do so many takes. The Reagans are Irish-Catholic New Yorkers, and their menu reflects that. It’s usually a meat or chicken, always some version of potatoes and a vegetable, salad and rolls. I’m Irish-Catholic, and I was halfway through the first season before I realized I was serving my mother’s old menu.”
Wahlberg: “Someone asked me if we get drunk because we have a lot of wine during the dinner scene, but, sadly, it’s just grape juice. Sorry, guys. And ‘Scotch’ is iced tea. I think they give us decaffeinated or we’d be bouncing off the walls.”
4. Everyone has a signature move.Gayle: “We have to look like we’re eating during every take so we’ve all figured out ways to pretend. Tom always butters his bread, so no one else can use that technique. Bridget [Moynahan] cuts her food a lot. I’ll cut my food, too, and drink water a lot.”
Amy Carlson: “I have my own tricks: Cut food and drink something. Once it become someone’s signature move, you can’t use it and you have to come with your own. Unless you’re Donnie, and then you just eat what’s put in front of you.”
5. There is one eating champion.Gayle: “It’s the running joke that Donnie doesn’t stop eating. Even during rehearsals. They’ll tell us not to eat the food because we’re just going through the lines. But I’ll look up and see Donnie chewing on something.”
Wahlberg: “Tom just pretends eat, but I’m the only one who really eats. I literally ate 20 pounds of asparagus today. I try to only stick to vegetables, which leads to other problems. Fortunately, we wrapped a little early today so the problems will be personal problems, and won’t be affecting everyone else at the table.”

Marisa Ramirez Teases Blue Bloods Season 4, Gushes Over Donnie Wahlberg's Boy Band Moves

TVF: Danny and Maria, you said before they’re kind of brother/sister, is that the same dynamic between the two of them or are they butting heads at all? How is the relationship with them this season?MR: Not at all. They’re just getting along like great partners, just really working as a team, and having fun together and just going off of each other’s personalities, but it’s fun solving cases together and stuff and there’s definitely a lot of teamwork and they haven’t been butting heads at all. Who knows, maybe that’s coming too. I don’t know. 

TVF: What’s it been like working with Donnie Wahlberg especially now that you’re a series regular and are spending a lot of time with him?MR: It’s so much fun. He just has this kind of youthful energy about him and he makes everything just so much fun, and long days don’t feel long when we’re working together, because everything is just happy and fun and no drama. He loves to make the crew laugh and tell jokes and do silly, boyish things. I just love working with him, really. I couldn’t think of another person in the industry I’d rather be working with.

TVF: Does it ever dawn on you, like, ‘this guy was a teen idol at one time, dancing around and singing.’MR: I’ve gone to see him and the band twice. I went to Staples Center and then I drove down to Atlantic City when he was out here. I think it dawned on me there, like, ‘Oh my God, I’m working with this guy every day. Now he’s a detective, but he’s standing up there and his shirt is off and he’s shaking his ass for all of these chicks who are just screaming their heads off, but I actually get to work with him every day. Hang on a minute, is this real?’ Yeah, but he’s so much fun, and all the guys in the group are just so nice, and it’s such a cool thing and such a neat experience.
